As designers we are well aware of the power of the spaces you inhabit to change your mood. An innovative, well thought out space tailored to a specific client can be a revelation. A wonderful, ergonomically designed space uplifts and invigorates, turning a house into a home. So we were keen to visit the Secret Yoga Club at the Royal Academy of Art’s Sensing Spaces: Architecture Reimagined exhibition last week. The exhibition explores the effect built spaces have on our senses through a series of breathtaking an inspirational installations by some of London’s top architectural practices, and conducting a yoga class beneath the installations’ ethereal silhouettes seemed inspired.
Yoga encourages presence of mind and a conscious awareness of one’s body and breathing, and the quiet concentration of the exercises brought a new appreciation of the strange and beautiful structures that surrounded us. During the class we were serenaded with live opera, and afterwards were treated to a vegan feast to round off a wonderfully peaceful yet thought provoking evening for the Clifton team. We highly recommend both the Secret Yoga Club and the Royal Academy’s Sensing Spaces exhibition if you’re looking for a refreshing retreat from a busy schedule or some truly surprising new design inspiration.
